The Right to Expression... Multi-sensorial Perception

Beyond the five known senses,
sight, smell, sound, touch, and taste,
there may exist other forms of perceptions,
unexplained by science as of this year 2011.

These perceptions include forms

of knowing, such as that of intuition,
of healing, described as miraculous,
and of seeing, beyond the use of eyes.

Sensation, perception, emotion, and meaning
are all avenues of multi-sensorial perception.

The study of the brain, for example,
is a huge, uncharted territory of knowledge.

It seems a majority of people have a belief
that there are other senses than the main five.
With belief, comes openness.
So a key question here may be,
what has created the difference
between these five senses that come so naturally to us
and the others that come with difficulty, if at all?

And other questions surface.
Is it possible we just aren't paying attention to "other" senses we have,
as we barely pay attention to the five we know we have?
Or maybe, are these "other" senses just extensions
of our basic five, stretched past some unknown limits
we place on these?

This is a right for the future,
allowing for the development of new discoveries.

I truly wish people would be more open minded about these extrasensory perceptions. Deep down I think all people have experienced something extraordinary weather they realize it or not. For example the third eye is thought to give the feeling of intuition. It has been known about for thousands of years among several different cultures. It’s not paranormal. It’s simply something science has yet to understand. After all, the human race is pretty young.

I believe musicians have a sixth sense when it comes to listening or creating new music. But I also believe it's something that takes practice and time, not always something that your born with.

I disagree with this blog, I don't think there's other forms of perceptions other than the five senses. As stated "that healing is described as miraculous" I feel like if someone was healed its because the doctors found out what the problem was and treated the person with the proper medication. This extrasensory perception is something all living creators must become aware of, and take it seriously for that is the reason so many things are left without explanation. Theres stuff going on all around us, and we have become blind to them ranging from things that are obvious or things that involve practice and time to notice. I personally am a believer that nothing should be canceled out simply for not having science to prove it is fact.

I agree and Disagree with this blog. I do believe that "knowing, such as that of intuition". But, I don't believe that "healing, described as miraculous". I believe some times people think into things a little to much. Everything in this world happens for a reason. If you were sick and you got better, it was because you were meant to get sick and get better. Wether it may spiritual or just cause, now that's a whole another subject and everyone has different beliefs.

The right to multi-sensorial perception is something to seriously think about. Did we evolve or were we created? This question is what I think that prevents us from investigating our multi-sensorial perceptions. Are we scared to know the answer? These perceptions are for real because they are a lot of facts that supports them. Everyone knows not to do something when they get that gut feeling. How do you explain that? A lot of time we do things for the first time and get it done right but refer to it as common sense, or was it stored in our memory? As for miraculous healing, is it really a miracle or is it done by knowing just exactly what to do in order to heal that person? These are questions that baffle the mind, but in my opinion I know for sure that there are multi-sensorial perceptions that we should have a right to, but I do not believe that it will be made possible in the future. These extraordinary perceptions happen to people daily without them even knowing. Haven’t you ever had a bad feeling about something and turns out your feeling was correct? I have, and to me that is a multi-sensorial perception. It’s not sight smell taste or touch it’s something you feel deep inside that is unexplainable. Many are afraid to let that show and let others know what they feel because they might think bad, but yes to the right to multi-sensorial perception! It happens to all of us! Cd884

The mind is a very powerful thing. Sometimes when tested, it can prove to be extraordinary. But not everyone has gotten the chance to feel this magic at work. As an artist, seeing is a tool that is most essential when creating a new piece. To see is a form of awakening. According to the Buddhist teachings, Seeing and Knowledge are two perceptions that go hand in hand. And once you have recognized an acquired both, that is when one finds truth and enlightenment. May people awaken as a right for the future and new discoveries. -PCR.

I think we, as human beings, are built with our senses and our intuition as well. Faith and attitude can go a long way even when a person is sick. I am a strong believer that a positive attitude can impact the outcome of any situation. Whether the situation may be good or bad, it is all how it is perceived.

I strongly believe we are built with our senses and our intuition.I believe there are gifted people in this world who could predict your future, I come from a very spiritual family so that might be the reason.I also believe positive attitude can impact the outcome of any situation and a really good book regarding that subject is 'The Secret" based on the law of attraction is said to work by attracting into a person’s life experiences, situations, events, and people that ‘match’ the frequency of the person’s thoughts and feelings. Therefore, positive thinking and feeling positive can create life-changing results such as increased wealth, health, and happiness.

I think this right depends on what people believe. While I'm not sure if I agree or disagree with this blog, I don't doubt that there are other senses besides the obvious five that we have known about our whole lives. But then again it could be that through these five senses, the brain is able to expand beyond.

I think the issue with this blog is that we're comparing something that most people can experience to something that only a few experience or only a few experience well enough to feel anything. Let me try to make my thought clearer: Nearly the entire world has access to these five basic senses. Yeah, some may not have them all, but it still goes without saying that most people have the ability to touch, smell, taste, hear, and see. On the other hand, most people don't walk around having a "gut feeling" about what may or may not happen next as they turn the corner and they certainly don't break their leg and find themselves the next day running a marathon. Sure, it may happen to some people at some point, maybe not to these extremes, but I'm trying to say there's a difference between these senses that we use everyday almost all the time to these random events.

I apologize that this isn't all that clear. There's a thought and a point somewhere in there, but I just can't get it out. CBERENG

I do believe in multi-sensorial perception. Our conscience is a good example of this. We know when we do something wrong because our conscience always brings it back until we fix the problem. Great athletes also develop multi-sensorial perception, they know just when to take the correct decisions when passing a ball or judging plays. We underestimate what our bodies and our minds can do, there is much more than just sight, sound, smell, touch and taste. AO

I have to say that these other forms of senses are fascinating to me. Maybe because I have not come across any research or information on it to give me reason to not believe. Maybe I am just hoping that someone can really heal someone or something miraculously. If I, or any of my family or friends, were to become ill, this hope in magic healing would help me get through the difficult time. JENS

I beieve that people have other forms of senses other than the main five senses, whether they want to believe it or not. I agree with the comments that said that you cannot always base everything on science. For example, science cannot tell you to follow your gut feeling, but many times, your gut feeling is the best answer that you can give yourself. Hanalv

I believe that everything we see, touch, smell, hear or taste, is only our own scan of our surroundings. The mind is a powerfull tool that has no limits, that create different perceptions through our senses. multi-sensorial perception can only be defined by our own belief, by what we think is real or not. I do not believe that there are more than five sense but that our mind puts not limits to it and because of that, there is no limits to perceptions.

Multi-sensorial means that I can feel some kind of guide to do something. I felt many things in my life to do different things such as getting a job, choosing a house, buying a car, etc. There is a sensation or intuition that allows me to make decisions and they became a reality, I touch them every day. I think there is something divine in the atmosphere and you just need to follow it! Therefore I feel that it is right, but a right included in the freedom to believe what I choose to believe and everyone else does too. GLT

I believe in the right to multi-sensorial perception. I think that we have more senses that just the five that we know of. They might not be scientifically backed but I feel the do exist. Many times people just know things or have a gut feeling about something and they are usually correct, this sense is your intuition. I think feelings and senses like your intuition are very real and just need to be tested and documented better.

I agree with this blog, I totally feel that there are other senses beyond the main 5 senses. I think there are things in this world that other experience that may same unexplainable. I think faith has a lot to do with. Many people believe there are other healing powers and feelings just by having faith and even praying. I think extraordinary perceptions comes every day, perfect example the day before my brother passed away I had a feeling something bad was going to happen. Is it my mind or is it some other sense? Well they do say women have a sixth sense. AFF

I too have had experience in a few strange events, but I feel that those perceptions are not exactly bizarre external stimuli being interpreted in an accurate way. More so, I feel that the human brain has coping mechanisms and typical responses. Biologically, we are all wired in a similar fashion. After my father's death, I felt that I never had a proper "goodbye". A few nights after his last night, I had a dream. It was a fervent, lucid dream that felt to sever my heart strings. It was the most traumatic part of his death for me, and he was already buried. It was a warm embrace and send off that reality (as perceived I suppose) didn't offer me. JS

The brain is an extraordinary organ. The brain tells your muscles what to do. It runs your body. I believe our brains have the capacity to exceed the five senses. In many cases I have felt sensation or intuition in many situations, which they always seem to be correct. How can this be when my five senses are not involved? I truly believe that scientists only see what they want to see and not beyond the eye. For example the five senses has a limit. Why limit us? We should have no limitations so we can make new discoveries.

As far as the ability to perceive something about the world without our currently understood senses goes, a lot of it is, unfortunatly, due to not giving credit to the brain's amazing ability to rearrange and interconnect sensory input.

The human brain is constantly working out how to figure out what's going to happen next from what it already knows and a lot of happens in the subconscious. It'll notice a slightly off color and less leaves on a plant, and leave you with the impression that the plants not doing so well all before you actually look at it and compare it.

I believe that there are more senses than the common ones. Some people may be born with a "sixth" sense but no one may believe them since we are close-minded. Also, I think that anyone could experience, once in their lives, something that is unexplainable with our five senses. To be able to experience these senses, one has to be open-minded. GIM

I can somewhat relate to the comment left by SB, on how the mind can exceed past and beyond the five senses. This is true, a good example are all types of dedicated martial artist and all people who go beyond the normal human tolerance of what ever it may be. Anything from tolerating pain, to moving objects twice their weight, to climbing vertical walls, to bending out of normal human shape. Humans have the capabilities to surpass their already given abilities. But we do have limitation, not so much as in the power to imagine, come up with ideas and set our sights in something bigger, but there are such things that cant be and will never be in our control to tame. (the very planet and outer space area which we dwell our life form in)
(Just Saying with all due respect.)

We are learning more about what the brain can do. I think these extra senses are more in line with intuitions. Knowing something has happened or is going to happen is a sense some people have. I do not think everyone has it only the few who are open to it. DS

Anonymous said...

I like to believe that the mind of the human being is a limitless tool. I believe everyone has some sort of premonition, intuition, and/or emotion that changes their future life. This could be due to those out of the ordinary senses, however, as stubborn as humans are, some refuse to believe this can exist and chose not to see these 'events'. I believe that there are ways for our bodies and minds to tell us something we might miss when only using our primary senses.

I agree with the right to multi-sensorial perception. There could be more than the standard five senses, but maybe the extra ones are not given much importance, because people may just believe there is only five. I also would like to mention that not everyone has use of the standard five senses, and as a result may develop a different one.

I do believe that humans have more than just five sense, I believe we all have multi-sensorial perception. Our brains are so powerful, that the five senses each one of us posses, are just doors that open our minds to go beyond what we expect. I also think that we as humans sometimes never pay attention to what our senses can do, and only pay attention to the five that we have. ME

My personal experience makes me believe that there are other senses beyond the well known five senses. In 1889, I was working far from home. My granma was 89 years old, but healthy and full of life. I woke up that day with a feeling that something serious was happening to her. I traveled about 22 hours by train. She died an hour after I arrived at the hospital. I truly believe in intuition, in extrasensory connection. I am positive, many discoveries will be made in the future that will explain what we do not understand today.ML

One of the first words we learn is “No”. We are conditioned to accept limitations from the time we come into this world. Only those individuals who refuse to accept the “it’s impossible to…” theory have accomplished greatness. The Wright brothers are a great example as are individuals born with no limbs who have become great artists. The expression “think outside the box” carries more weight than we are ready to accept. Let’s break the chains that prevent us from believing what we cannot touch or explain and embrace the right to multi-sensorial perception. VMR

Deprive yourself of one perception and somehow you compensate. Helen Keller overcame her lack of two perceptions and excelled in ways we can almost not comprehend. Hearing and seeing better than we can with our eyes and ears. People with premonitions feel something, there is no denying that when you feel something is there, sometimes it is. What about the urge to call your mom and you find out she had just been in an accident? What are dreams? What about the SICK individual that truly believes they will be or ARE better and then are? The difference is we have evolved the five known senses based on need as part of an ever changing world, the others are latent based on an unexpected need or unconscious effort. We have no idea what we are capable of until we need it.

I personally do think that we do have more than just five senses, but our brains are so complicated and so complex that its too hard for us to recognize them and use them until we're in desperate and life threatning situations. its going to take a lot of research and future studies on the brain for us as humans to fully comprehend and understand the things our brains are capable of.-RBM

Not so much of a "right-to" multi-sensorial perception for we are born with these senses. I believe the right falls more on the right to either develop or study them. Some people live their lives as if they were products of society and go from one thing onto another as if they were robots without so much as questioning their existence and its meaning. Most people disregard the fact that as humans we are such beautiful creatures with abilities that could go beyond our comprehension. Knowing out of intuition, maybe is possible because our ancestors already lived through that and its in fact stored in our brains. Healing could definitely be miraculous, "science can only go so far, after that comes God", we can heal through believing but that also is the power of the mind. Finally, "seeing beyond our eyes", all it takes is to close your eyes and feel the universe around you, the world is yours. It is possible we are just simply not paying attention to all the right signs, because we choose to be all wrapped up in material things that have no meaning whatsoever. There are no unknown limits, we just have to open our minds to marvelous things.

The mind is more powerful than most people think. I believe that if we would start using our minds more rather than being a couch potato watching television or playing video games we would realize that there are other senses. Sadly is our society at times we are told not to use are minds because everything is provided. NOBRA

Anonymous said...

Being a couch potato playing games does develop a certain extra perception skill. The ability to operate in the two dimensional world and get through it with a series of key strokes on a controller as if it is real life, takes a certain amount of depth. what level of senses does that take? it is like sensory deprivation through sensory overload. It forces the individual to operate totally in an almost extrasensory environment.ctk

The study of the mind is psychology or psychiatry and the study of the brain is neurology, or neuroscience. I believe that there are many aspects of the mind that cannot be studied scientifically the same way that the actual brain can be studied. In my opinion, I do believe that some people can have a stronger ability to access more areas of their minds therefore having something like a “sixth sense” in different areas. -KKP

I believe that there are the only five senses and that the extra preceptions just come from previous experiences and the "gut feeling". For example, you may have been put in a situation more than once and with time your brain is already used to the outcome and you have basically programed it to know what to expect. I believe that your main senses is what makes the extra perceptions. -NR

I strongly believe that there are other senses in addition to the main five. I also believe that what is keeping us from developing these other senses is fear. Fear to accept how little we know about the human race and about our place in this universe. Fear to discover that maybe all our evolutionary theories are wrong. Fear to accept that scientific facts can not be the explanation for everything. That is why when we get a gut feeling about something we called it "experience" or when we hear a voice in our head telling us not to do something we say that it is our conscience speaking to us.

I've always thought that there are other senses aside from the basic five. Like another person sad, they believe musicians have a sense to listen and understand music. Other people may have this kind of sense and understanding to topics they are interested in. For example, maybe someone has a sense that has to do with animals or kids or plants. I think everyone has a service to do on the planet, and if a person listens and feels deep enough, they can find their calling and find the extra sense. Not sure if this is what this right was about, but it's what it means to me.

I have always had this ability, so I never gave it much thought. Reading thru this blog I realize it is an advantage I hold over those that don’t posses this ability. I think is this something I learned to do? Was I born with this unique ability? I believe I did. It helped me in choosing friends and making decisions, and thankfully I have never been defrauded. Humans rely on intuition, however, some more than others. I feel that it also has to do on the experiences that we have been through that lead us to develop ones own internal belief system. The human brain is much more advanced than the studies that are being conducted in conventional medicine. We must think out of the box. Believe in others, and always have an open mind. If this world were black and white it would have never evolved. I believe that the world of human power has yet to be tapped into. AAA

Even though we are humans and are said to be number one in advanced brain activity, doesn’t mean we are completely different than any other living creature in this planet. We have and use our instincts naturally for almost everything we do. Although we involve much thought into the decisions we make and how we confront them, we still use our instincts for the final outcome towards those decisions.

I think someone that is passionate about something experiences perceptions that are not known to other individuals. Truly being able to grasp something and just contort it to into a whole new reality is experiencing a new sense. As humans we think that everything has a specific function or a set of procedures, however there are things that happen and we cannot explain them. New perceptions can be spontaneous and occur without us even realizing them.

I believe that these multi-sensorial perceptions such as intuition have always been innate in us. The question of whether or not they always existed, or if they evolved may never have a definite answer. However, multi-sensorial perceptions are basic survival tools just like our preliminary five sense. They can also be considered an extension of the basic five senses. Simply seeing or hearing has to be complimented by further senses such as intuition, knowing, and healing.

I believe that these kind of feelings and knowing sensations comes under the five senses category. Without these five senses I don't think there would be another sense, these extra senses are somehow related to the main five senses. For example, when a mother looks into her child's eyes, she can sense his or her emotions using one or more of the five main senses, she can know what he or she might be thinking and what is expected to be said.
