The Right to Expression....Charity

Charity is similar to the Right to Generosity.
Charity is generosity,
but it is more specific.
As I define it, this form of generosity provides a basic need for another being.
Basic needs include food, water, safety, health care, and shelter.
Charity is both care and caring.

There are many living beings
who find themselves in extreme circumstances.

I declare the Right to Charity.

What charity have you received or given?

We have two hands:
one for helping ourselves,
one for helping others.

When my cousin’s parents were going through a horrible divorce we offered our house as shelter from the fights that came from divorcing your spouse after 18 years of marriage. For the two months she lived with us my mother adopted her. This may not be a charity like Habitat for Humanity but my cousin needed a stable home when hers wasn’t and that is what we gave her.

Charity is the most cherished thing you can give and receive. Many people are in need of many things in this world and when you give them that thing they need for life they are so very grateful. I don’t know about anyone out there but when I give someone something and I see the glow in their eyes and the happiness I just caused that person it makes me feel very good inside. So yes to the right to charity! Cd884

Several semesters ago in a Psychology class I did an essay on Happiness. As I researched to find out what happiness meant for others I came to a surprising conclusion. One would think that happiness can be love, education, family or money but, the truth is that happiness is being able to help others. It turns out that most people found true happiness in their lives due to the act of charity and generosity not accomplishments. All of the other things just give you seconds of happiness and then you are left with nothing. Being able to help other through charities or generosity is a lifetime experience that fulfills your heart with happiness. NOBRA

I support the right of charity! Charity equals to giving, giving equals to blessings. A charitable person loves, a charitable person shares. I consider my self to be a loving giving charitable person. I give of grace what of grace i have received, that's what charity is all about.

Without the Right to Charity, where would this world be? Some people, especially children are more fortunate than others. It gives me great pleasure to participate in charity events such as toy drives, school supplies and can goods for Thanksgiving. I love giving change to the people on the curb asking for help. Charity is the human side of living. RhW

In May we went to Haiti as a support group to a medical mission at the Myles of Hope Orphanage and School. During those four days the medical mission saw more than three hundred people. They dressed in their finest clothes. They waited for hours with no complaints. Many that had never seen a doctor, ever. Just the vitamins alone that were given out were received in the most gracious way. During that time three of us that were not in clinical roles chipped in and bought 40 gallons of paint and supplies. We painted an unfinished space that the school was using and made it more enjoyable. The songs those kids sang in celebration were so wonderful. While all that seems like the charity, it wasn’t. Walking back to our camp each night handing out small toys and stickers to what seemed like hundreds of children that would walk with us as we made our way, seeing the looks and smiles on the faces of these kids. Children who had absolutely next to nothing made us understand that sometimes having is not so important compared to just being. The charity was bestowed on us. I will never again underestimate the power of charity. The simplest acts of gratitude, a smile, a laugh an innocence. We hope to go again in October for three days to follow up on the patients and lay some tile. I go to enrich my life with a charity bestowed on me by the very people I thought to be charitable to.

I try to help as much as I can. That is why I am usually involved in toy drives for Christmas or giving cloth to the homeless or canned food drives to the countries in need after a natural disaster. Just by giving those individuals in need the tiniest thing that one can think of, one is doing a great favor to them because most of them do not have anything. GIM

During my freshmen year of high school I had the privilege of volunteering in many different departments within hospitals. I decided that I really enjoyed the atmosphere of the pediatric department because I saw that the children were in great need of attention and I have always been the type to help others in need any, if in my power. I thought what greater way then donating to a charity to help those children who are not as fortunate. I made a promise that once I got a job, my entire first pay check would be donated to an organization called Children's Miracle Network. And so it was. VA

I often donate clothes to goodwill. I normally go through my closet and my son's closet, at least twice a year. I also try to help as much as I can, when there is a natural disaster such as a hurricane or earthquake. Often those countries hit are already in economic trouble prior to the disaster. In that case I try to send canned goods or any essentials they may need. Charity is needed in the world. If someone could give something, the world may be a better place.

Charity, or shouldn't it be called caring? Just like chivalry this is becoming non-existent. I can sit here and read everyone's comment on how they did a charitable thing, but you can't confuse charity with favors! Just like religion you can have faith, but what is faith without supporting actions. I invite everyone to re-post a true charitable action; I myself will do the same.

In the past months I have donated my old clothes to people from church that are in need. It makes me feel good to see them happy because to them it's like they spent a day shopping for the amount of clothes given. I feel good because I know that someone is wearing my clothes instead of throwing it away. It's always better to give than to receive. H.I.V

I believe in the right for charity, not only for your self but doing it for others. Its always a great feeling after you have done something good for another person, I’m glad that I have always been a giver never a receiver, but I sure hope if one I need it someone is there for me. At least once every 5 months I gather all the clothes that I haven’t touched and give them to good will or to local shelters. Many are not as lucky as we are, and I think we take that for granted. Charity should be done out of the goodness of your heart not because you feel bad. I am for the right for charity. AFF

Don’t confuse the virtue of charity, the theological concept of unlimited love and kindness, with the practice of charity. In the context of this discussion I don’t think that practice of charity is being confused with favors either. A favor is; A gracious, friendly, or obliging act that is freely granted: do someone a favor. The person receiving the favor doesn’t have to be someone in need, and they usually solicit the favor. “do me a favor Dad, can I have 20 dollars?” It is charitable when you don’t expect payment, but that’s where it stops. Charity is by definition; the giving of help, money, food, etc., to those in need. Usually not solicited directly, and there is no expectation of anything except that the recipient will be better off than they were before the gift. It is not a bad thing to feel good after giving, its natural and healthy. Caring is a huge part of charity, but again don’t confuse the two definitions of charity.

My act of VIRTUOUS charity is that I accept every person for what they are, and treat them as I would expect to be treated, I go into every situation with everything to gain and nothing to lose. That is also called faith. Faith does not require supporting actions, just trust in that it is what it should be. CTK

A few years ago, I was given a used vehicle to transport my three children to and from school when their father abandoned us. My mom provided us with shelter and food when we had none. Because of their heartfelt generosity, I have a grateful heart and a desire to do the same. Though I am not giving away cars, I am giving back to those in need. Whether it is caring for children with a single mom or giving basic items for the homeless. It may be intangible necessities such as having compassion for the elderly, who once were strong but now weak, and are incapable of caring for themselves and their needs. I have witnessed both sides of charity. Having the Right to Charity is a gift and I am stronger for it. DS

Charity in my eyes is a great gesture to give to someone in need. I have never really received any type of charity. I have giving back at times to people that are near to me when they have needed money, clothes or shelter. In these tough economic times, I think we should all be grateful for what we have. In life there is always someone else worse out there than you. These upcoming holidays I plan to help some families have a better holiday season.

When it comes to charity, I consider myself lucky to give me the pleasure to help others. I have been working for six years as an after school leader in an elementary school. During that time I have known a lot of children and their families that are people really in need of help. So, besides the caring, love, and extra educational help that I give to them every single day; I also have donated clothes, uniforms, shoes, toys, and a lot of school supplies.I have made this charity for the sake of the children and humanity. So, I am in favor of the right to charity. I have to say yes to the right to charity, for I was taught to gives others in need since I was a little kid. For many of us charity is nothing else than a disposition to show love, compasion and generosity for others in need. It gives us the chance to stop thinking about ourselve and for a moment think about others, give them help and support.I really enjoy helping people around me, and I have been on the other side too. About four years ago, my dad lost his job, he was the main provider at home, after a couples of months there was no even money to buy food and thanks to the generosity of friend from church, we were able to have something to eat everyday. Now our situation has changed and we make sure that not matters, we donate a little extra for those in need.

Humans have a nature to either destroy or rebuild. It’s also in our nature to care. So it’s no surprise to me that the act of caring for others, who are not even part of our lives, are treated with some kindness by certain groups such as charity. Even for other species that are not of our own.( Such as animals) Even though I’ve never volunteer for a charity event, I on my own, along with my family, take in stays and abandon animals that come into our lives and bring them back to health. Even if we don’t have the ability or the money for their care, we do our best to take in the sick, wounded and lonely into our lives and try our best to give them a better life. So far we have 13 outdoor stay cats who were all born at the house sight, 6 dogs, 3 being rescued strays, and 12 birds who have been abandon, born, or saved and released back to the wild. Even though its hard to take care of them, we don’t regret it.

They say "if you give you shall recieve." I have always had a weak heart for children whom are sick or hungry. It breaks my heart. Recently, the most charietable effort I have made is to write a check, stamp it, and walk it over to my mail box; which is not charitable in my opinion. Reading this post has made me remember of the efforts I used to do years ago. Every summer I used to fly out of the states into the most poorest countries and spend three months out there. I will assist physicians in providing health care to the poorest civilizations you could possibly imagine. It was a beautiful experience, it made me appreciate how fortunate I was, and I was so ever grateful how much love I learned from them. I should get back to it.

The majority of people do acts of charity from their heart. Unfortunately, sometimes the basic need of humans is turned into a corrupt business. There are many non-profit (charity) companies world wide. Although, the majority of these companies distribute the charity appropriately, others do not. It infuriates me when I read about charity scandals in the media. One example, is China Red Cross businessman Wang Jun, reference www.nytimes.com/2011/07/05/world/asia/05china.html. In my opinion, stealing from a charity should be severally punished, as the individuals with the greater needs are the ones who suffer.

A smile, a kind word, taking the time to listen, opening a door for another person – in general, being conscious of the needs of others can make a difference in someone’s life and is just as important as mailing a check. Choose a cause you believe in and contribute as much as you can. No matter how small the gesture or the sum, it adds up. Charity most of the time helps those who can’t help themselves. Children in Africa who can’t find a decent meal or clothes to wear, many of those children depend on charity to help support them in times of struggle. The right to charity is a necessity for the sake of our humanity and their well-being.

The Right to Charity is excellent. Helping others and seeing a smile on their face I would say is one of the most amazing feelings in the world. It satisfies me completely when I help someone in need. Unfortunately, as years pass by, people start getting selfish and bitter, only thinking about themselves. There are so many people out there who need help. It is nice to give without waiting to receive anything in return. Every year I donate money to my country's Telethon, because even though here in the United States we have the privilege of living in a country where we can get help when we need it if any disability if present, in other countries that help almost doesn't exist. It breaks my heart to see people with disabilities struggle through their lives because they don't have the resources needed in order for them to live comfortably, but my heart is filled with emotion and joy just by knowing that maybe even a little amount of money can change their whole lives. I have always been raised to help out anyone that needs it. My mother is probably the most generous person I know. She doesn't donate money or things of this sort but if there is someone in need of food or clothing she will give them food from our refrigerator and clothes from her closet. I'm sure people like this exist elsewhere but I don't know anyone who does this the way my mom does. Because of her, I have always been generous myself and it's a wonderful thing to help someone or something out. The charitable thing my family does is we pick up dogs from the street. At one point we've had about 20 dogs, but now we're down to just 6. We try to find good homes for them because dogs get expensive, but they are so grateful when they lived on the street and they are offered food and a place to sleep. This has always been important part of my life, and I have always been grateful that my mother has shown me how to be a generous person and appreciate everything I have since others may not have it.

I received the charity of a second chance at a better life. After losing just about everything due to the passing of a family member I realized how supportive my true friends were, giving me shelter, food and water in my time of need. I now know how lucky I am to have such amazing friends.

I believe that in the kind of world we live in, it is very important to give help to those who are in need of it. Throughout the last few years we have seen other countries go through earthquakes, tsunamis and even wars. When it has been in our hands, giving aid has been very important. I like to believe that all and any help is valued and appreciated. Helping out with supplies for those who need it, or with food for those who don't have any can make a difference in the world. I have always been aware that there are people in terrible situations, and therefore whenever I can, I help in any way I see fit. I'd like to think that if I am in need, someone else will help as well.

Being raised in a big family, charity has been a quality fond in my life. From giving away my old clothes or toys to my siblings, to sharing basically everything. Charity is a blessing both in giving and receiving. During the horrible incident in Haiti, I was a high school student. As a form of charity I used my gift of art to make beautiful pieces in order to sell for the donation program at the school. I sold over 7 works. I also donate blood regularly because if you are healthy you should spread your blessing to those in need. The other day at work a homeless woman told me she was hungry I made her a meal as I gave it to her, her eyes lit up in appreciation, without a doubt charity is a blessing... mlv.

I personally, the only way I help is by donating stuff to goodwill, or simply sending clothes to my home country. Often, as humans, don’t realize the privileges and luxuries that we have. For example in my country, every day becomes more difficult to survive. Basic needs become impossible to fill, and not to mention buy clothes; so, every time I know that someone is traveling to my country, I try to collect clothes and shoes to be sent. I probably don’t have much to offer, but I try to share the little I have; just the fact that the other person is happy fills my life with joy. I think that charity begins at home, so it is necessary to teach our children the meaning of word charity.
This world would be better if we stop thinking about ourselves and start helping those in needs.

You’ll discover in life you have two hands; one for helping yourself, and one for helping others. I agree with the right to charity. I wake up every morning thankful for everything I have. Many people lack the basic needs such as clean water to drink or to bath with. We take so much for granted. By just giving a little you make a huge difference in someone else’s life. I think volunteer work should be mandatory for every American once year. It should be more than just writing a check. We need to go where these people live and see their living conditions and hear their stories –J.D.

In my opinion The Right to Charity should be supported by everyone. After all these years, I can still remember my mom telling me charity begins at home. What is charity? Charity is defined as an act of goodwill or affection. Charity can be material wealth or love. Every day you give charity to some extent and of course you receive it also in abundance. I believe that the more charity you give, the more you will receive from others and will help make a better world. It does not matter who we give charity to, whether it is our neighbor or someone in a far country. When we share it means we care and that is what is important. RR

So far in my life I have done a number of charitable things. Many times I have gone done to homeless shelter with my church to pass food we made and also help prepare food there and serve it to the people living there. Besides feeding the people there I spent time with them, had a conversation with them and shared a meal with them. I have also many times donated my clothes and other items as well as my time to help in migrant camps. I myself thankfully never had to receive charity and hopefully never will, but I do hope to still give to others and do what I can to make their lives easier.

To tell you the truth I do not believe in most charities in our country because you never know how they really use your donations. I've always heard people saying "I help a good cause by donating clothes and other artifacts to Goodwill, it comes to find out that they really do this because Goodwill gives them a break at their tax returns- this is not charity." I strongly believe in helping those in needs, weather by giving them food, water, money, clothe, etc. Personal Experience : One Saturday morning on September while driving to MDC I see a guy asking for money for food at a Traffic light at Kendall Drive so I went and got breakfast for me and I decided to buy him some breakfast as well. When I drove back to the traffic light and gave this guy his breakfast that I had bought with all the good intentions in the world, he trashes the breakfast and tells me that what he really wants is money to buy a beer. I said, you are very welcome and called the cops on him. People tell me that I have a cold heart, but this guy ticked me with this. I still do help some people from time to time and when I see someone out in the street well dressed and asking for help finding work I stop and ask them what they use to do for a living and if it has to do with construction I try to recommend them to the people I know. I think that I'm still doing some good after the breakfast experience.CMP

Charities are more important to a community than one would think. They help those whom are in a difficult situation. Growing up in would go on Sunday's to feed the homeless in downtown with my friend and his family. His father was known as the “cheeseburger man” all throughout downtown Miami. He would buy hundreds of burgers and hand them out from the back of his pickup in the evening, then making stops at several shelters before returning home. It's a great feeling! Rewarding was the happiness on their faces. Charities have helped not just people but countries re-establish themselves. Always will there be a Right to Charity!!

I completely agree with the right to charity. Whether it is helping a friend, family member, shelter, church, etc. helping other people is one of the most beautiful acts of kindness.
There isn't a better feeling than being able to see the happiness in a person's face when you've helped them out. If we all continued to help one another more often, the world would definitely be a better place.

As the Golden Rule says, “do unto others as you would have done unto you”. I think being charitable is a very idealistic and altruistic way of living. Live each day not only for yourself but with the enthusiasm of doing for others what they can not do for themselves. I have been affiliated with Girl Scout USA, for the past 12 years now. I began as a parent and currently I am a troop leader. I can attest to part of their promise “to help people at all times”. This organization teaches girls to love thyself and others selflessly. Together we strive for a better community in the goal of positive volunteerism from both children and adults. As a leader, I enlist in my girls this motto. We bake cookies and bread for a local shelter. We collect cookie donations to be delivered to a shelter for abused and neglected children. We visit the elderly, and console the sick. The joy and happiness it brings to those in need, engulfs my desire to do this the rest of my life. YYD

The Right to Charity is a beautiful right. I believe that while no one person can do everything, every person can do something. My mother has five biological children (myself included) and when I was a senior in highschool she decided to adopt a little boy from Guatemala who was in need of a family. A year after that we decided to go back and give another child a chance at a good life with a loving family and adopted another little boy. Two years ago, we took a trip to Ethiopia and my mother adopted a tweleve year old girl whose mother had given her to a foster home because she got AIDS and was no longer able to care for her. In my eyes I believe that what my mother and my family have done for these three children by providing them with a loving home, shelter, food and an education is one of the ultimate forms of charity. Although my mother does not believe it to be "charity" because they are as much a part of my family as any of my biiological siblings, I believe that in a way it is. My mother always says you must be the change you wish to see in the world. I feel that there is no better feeling then when you give something whether it be love or any basic need to someone who is less fortunate then I am and doesn't have it.- KKP

Just a few days ago, I met a man in a wheelchair by CVS. He asked me for money, but I didn’t have any at the moment. I went inside, but I couldn’t find what I was looking for, so instead I bought a bottle of water and asked the lady for five dollars in cash back. I walked back outside and gave the man both the money and the water. I stood there with him for a little while, talking with him and he looked happier than when I first saw him. When I said my good- byes and walked back to my car, all I could think was, where would we be as humans if we don’t look out for our own?

When I help someone in need I feel better and I think that happen to many people who has given charity before. For example when you are at a red light and you see someone asking for alms most of the time I would give them any change I have in my car or if I have loose dollar bills. Even tough many just want the money for drug but I am satisfied with myself for helping chances are they might need it for food. I think we need to help those in need because you never know where you could be tomorrow and I believe in Karma. If the good is sown, the good is collected. When positive things are made, that returns well.

It is easy to say that everyone is entitled to food, water, safety, health care, and shelter. This fact is accepted worldwide. Yet very few are actually willing to sacrifice their wants to satisfy the needs of others. Everyone not only has the right to charity but the responsibility to turn their thoughts into actions and follow the responsibility of charity.

Charity is the action of giving and showing empathy for the need of others. I have found giving is better than to receive because I fill my heart with happiness when I cover a necessity. Two months ago, I met a pregnant lady who was sick and with a necessity of food and shelter. My husband and I got food for her and gathered furniture and other items for the baby. I cannot describe how happy we were when she received all these things. We saw how God gave us this opportunity to do this. We felt blessed.GLT

Charity is an ideal that is preached about in many if not all major religions. Charity is a means of helping out relatives, friends, community, and the less fortunate. Charity does not necessarily have to be in the form of currency, it can be many things such as lending a helping hand or providing relief to those who need it most. Doing charity shows others that you care for their well being and that you are humble.

The right to charity means to me that if you have it and don't need it, give it to someone who needs it. There should be more people that feel this way, but sadly they don't. It should be easy for people to let go of something there not using or have plenty of to someone who is in need. And it should make them happy to give to others, being a form of morally bringing improvement to their lives as well. JE

When people think of charity, they often think of donating money or items to some nonprofit organization. What they do not seem to realize is that charity goes way beyond that. Charity should impact your life, and the person whom you are helping. When my mother kicked me out of my house, a friend gave me refuge, food, and care. If it was not for him, I would still be sleeping at the local park. Months passed, I returned home, and then He gets kicked out of his home. I returned the favor, and helped him in any way possible. When emotions come with donating, that is when you have charity. -PCR.

I agree with the right to charity. I personally collect items throughout the year to take to Colombia, South America to give to poor children during Christmas season. People should have all the basic needs, there are many people in Africa for example who do not have potable water as oppose to us in the US, we can buy a bottle of water anywhere pretty much. Other countries such as El Salvador in Central there are many children there who do not have a place to live or even get to eat on regular basis. Charity is important, if everyone in the world gave a little we would not have these types of issues.

Although its nothing big I hope that the charity of my time and knowledge will help some of these girls become something more that what society expects. It I all worth my while when I see there smiles when I walk in every Thursday. God knows they really need it, I talk to them about them about everything from the different careers out there to giving them advise on friendship, relationships and person relationships with there parents. I try to be the best role model I can to these girls moreover I hope that something sticks to them.

Every human deserves the basics. If our fellow humans are unable to afford it for themselves, no one should even think about taking their right to charity away from them. So many people are blessed in this world, so those who are not as blessed need our help. It is our responsibility to give out a helping hand when another person is in need. Growing up in Haiti, I witnessed first hand millions of people who lack basic essentials such as clean water and food. Therefore, I was able to deeply connect with the right to charity.

In the Islamic religion, one of the 5 pillars requires people who are able to pay the "zakat"- or money to the less fortunate, to do so once a year. They are required to take 2% of their entire earnings in the year and send it to Muslim charities either in their country, or in others. It allows them to realize that there are people who are not as blessed as we all are. They believe that "Allah"- or god, will repay them later on in life. I personally agree with giving to others who require my help.

I declare the right to charity as well. We that have all the necessary elements to survive and rejoice in them so much that sometimes we even take it for granted we should be able to share and give to those who do not have the same privileges. While our big life decisions might seem of great concern someone's concern is what am I going to eat to get through another day? Life always gives, we should not forget to give back.

Can you imagine a world where charity isn't necessary?
Neither can I because I don't think it is possible. I think there are always going to be people in need, need of protection or food or supplies......etc
