The Right to Migrate

Migration is about survival.

Multitudes of birds migrate across the globe of Earth for food.
They prepare by adding fat and feathers,
 and they follow various "flyways"
using the sun and stars and magnetic fields as compass for direction.

Some fly high, some low, by day and night, some nonstop.
By season, annually.

Instead, the human species tries to stop other humans from migration.
It doesn't want to share land and food and jobs,
and it fears carried diseases.

Two different species.
Both migrate to survive.

I declare the Right to Migrate for all  beings.

I agree to the right to migration but with some restrictions because if you use up all your resources then there will not be any resources left to share. Also you have to be protective of others who may want to migrate with the purpose of hurting others.

I agree with Chelsea. I have no problems with migration as long as it is done with the areas/country's well being in mind. I do have an issue with people migrating to the USA and not respecting it or the language. If I migrated to another country, I feel it is my duty to not only learn their ways but to learn their language.

Humans have been migrating since the first man walked the earth. I have no problem with anyone who migrates to the USA as long as he abides by the law.

I do agree that humans should have the right to migrate. Sometimes we could be selfish because we don't want to share our jobs. In my opinion, I don't mind sharing jobs, I just don't find it fair that they don't try and learn the language and still get jobs. Why should people who only speak spanish get jobs in a country where english is the main language. While some of us, who were born and raised here, are still looking for jobs.

I think that people should have the right to migrate anywhere, anytime, without restrictions, but of course abiding the laws of the country. After all the majority of the people migrating to this country are searching for a better life. I also believe that immigrants should be given equal opportunities for jobs, education, etc. People that are born and raised here have the upper hand, so they should not complain about not having jobs, when it is easier for them to be employed, not having to deal with work permits, sponserships, etc.

I do agree that people have a right to migrate since the majority do it for governmental reasons or for economic reasons. America has always been the land where people turn to, to escape tribulations being dealt with. As long as they become citizens and follow the law, I see no problem in it.

I agree with Lauren. The human species is unique in many ways and yet selfish. Who are we to stop other people from migrating? Like Stefan said “Humans have been migrating since the first man walked the earth”. Now on the other hand, if people do wish to migrate, I think they must learn the ways of that land and respect it. In our case with immigrants entering the United Staes. I don’t mind them coming making a better life for them but they must learn English and learn our ways.

I think there's a big difference between legal and illegal immigration.
The truth is, illegal immigrants are a net drain on our economy. Since they are willing to be extorted for the most minimal of wages, they have caused Americans in the low-skill work force to lose their jobs, which in turn forces more and more taxpayer money to be spent on welfare and other public assistance programs.

I believe that migration to the U.S. should not be restricted in any way other then those that do not obey the law. It seams everyone argues that this country's main language is English. Do we forget what we have done to the Natives? Also take into consideration a more recent time, before all the western coast was part of the United States? What language did they speak? Our country is founded on migration. Who are we to stop anyone from looking to better their lives in the same way that our ancestors before us have?

Migration is the foundation in which most societies have been created. Whether it be the fear of staying in a country, or the curiosity to explore another.Sharing our diverse cultures and history benefits us in ways much greater than we could list on paper. How boring this world would be without the right to migrate. -K.A.S

To control migration is to infringe on personal freedom, to strip away the ability for one to seek out better opportunities for themselves and their loved ones. That said, as the growing global population continues to strain the earth's resources, migration and its management will become vital and some compromise between freedom and control may be required.

Migration is such a wonderful thing, it makes us realize that we are part of something big and that not everybody lives in the same way we are accustomed to live. It gives wisdom, opportunities, and knowledge to those who experience it. The more people see the world and meet people of different cultures, the more they become educated. I believe that if we only understood that bad people are born every day and everywhere, we may give a better chance to those who are trying to unite, in good faith, to a bigger mass.

The right to migrate is contradictory now that the world is one because of globalization. Globalization made some types of migration unnecessary for example; people can work online for other countries without the necessity of migrating. Other languages and cultural differences can be learned on line, global communities share as many interest as we may imagine. We get acquainted with news happening around the world with a mouse click. We can visit other countries and still live in our own bringing globalization to us.

I think that migration should not be restricted in anyway. In the United States, many people believe that if others migrate to the US then they should learn English and adapt to our customs. I have to say I disagree with them. We live in a nation founded on immigration. Let us not forget the Native Americans, did the English or the Spanish adapt to them? Or more recently, the entire western portion of the US was Mexico at one time. Did we adapt to them? As far as criminals go, yes I do believe that our laws need to be followed but take into consideration what crimes some of these "criminals" are being accused of. Many of the migrants are considered criminals just because they live here and not being citizens. Remember that there are criminals everywhere. Even good, honest people can become criminals.

Long time ago, the man always travel to other places, looking for areas where they could be able to hunt and fish. Nomads migrated during many years, searching for food and water. Centuries have past and the man continue emigrating for the same reasons or searching for a safer place, more opportunities, freedom, etcetera. The earth belongs to all of us and we all have the right to emigrate, whatever the reason lead us to do it.

I think everyone should have the right to migrate anywhere they would like to, as long as they obey the rules, than there is no harm. We were all created equally. I think migration is great and is a great form of really bringing everyone together and seeing how differently but at the same time how alike we all are.

I agree with this blog to a certain extent. Migration is okay to be done as long as it’s legal and for a good cause. Such as studying, or working. Nowadays there are too many people taking advantage of our country and what it offers. As for the comparison between birds and humans, I don’t believe it’s the same way because with the birds they don’t have a stable society such as humans and when they migrate its done with instinct of survival .We migrate only to benefit ourselves. We always want the better, there’s no reason to leave a country where you’re living at in that particular moment to survive.

Migration is natural. It seems odd to me that human beings feel that they can monopolize a whole environment and not allow others to venture through.

I agree with the right to migrate because instinctively we as humans naturally migrate from our home when we grow up, seeking work opportunities, or just having a vacation. We need change in order to revolutionize, and migrating is the first step.

The need to migrate can be relevant in all sources of life indeed, even the nomads back in Abrahams time would actually travel from time to time migrating to receive promises in distant lands and really to obtain what belonged to them in far off and unknown places. so if in that time they migrated then to obtain belongings why cant we do the same now.

I agree with the right to migrate as long we obey the laws. US has been a country formed by immigrants . We cannot forget brilliant minds like Albert Einstein, Andy Garcia, Gloria Estefan, Salma Hayek, and Arnold Schwarzenegger, etc. These were some of the immigrants that came to this country and have contribute to the social and cultural enrichment of this nation.

I agree with the statement declaring the right of migration for all human beings because it is not just about sharing food and land, it is also about the improvement and benefits that those people who migrate can bring to the development of the other country. Even when sometimes it is not the case, people should put pros and con in a balance to demonstrate that there is not improvement without new ideas, and who could bring those new ideas? the people who migrate.

Going back to what M. Quintanilla said about migrating to only benefit ourselves, I strongly disagree. Not everyone leaves their home and what they know (in fact, ALL they know) JUST to better their lives (although solid and logical reason in and of itself). Some people in third-world countries migrate to survive or those in countries under dictator-like government migrate to escape a proverbial "iron fist," and go where freedom is (most of the time, America).

I do agree with the right to migrate. I did it myself. But I think that we need to have laws to prevent the migration from becoming out of control. We are now living in a world that needs organization given that the population has increased since the time when you did not need documentation to migrate to a better country for a brighter future. A prosperous country without immigration restrictions would result in a chaotic and disorganized nation.

Agreed! Migration is the way of life, everyone must always have their arms open for anyone, doesn't matter what color or who your past leaders were we have to share lives as we are all born from the same entity and we all share the same bodies just in different forms. Migration is indeed the way to attain some peace in your life, now if there is a giant wall that doesn't allow you to migrate it kills your dreams and you peace will slowly dissipate.

Its funny how now there are all these rules for migrating from one place to the other, when the earth's land area used to be one big pangea. People do not want to leave their homeland, they are just looking for a better outcome. They do not want to risk their life at sea, or crossing dangerous deserts, or paying a mule to put them in a stinky, hot, back of a trailer with 50 others only to be caught and sent right back. They do this out of desperation and aspiration for a better tomorrow.

Migration is how we have changes in Life. But you have to see WHO migrates, this tends to be the problem now a days. Every day lots of people sacrifice there life and there families, to obtain a piece of the "American Dream". They don't realize that now a days, I has become the " American Nightmare". We should resolve the situation in our country with the ones who Migrated already, and move on from that.

This right is the most complex one so far. The right to migrate is an important one; every being deserves to leave a country that is oppressive or in famine. However, it is difficult for the government of the receiving country to govern a body of people who are constantly coming and going, who aren’t familiar with the laws of the land. People who migrate also need to respect the laws, customs, and resources of the country they are migrating to.

I don't agree with this right all too much because I think there's a big difference between entering a country legally as opposed to doing so illegally.

I agree to the right to migrate I think it’s important for people to migrate for different reason for exploring the world, or for a better life. If people didn’t migrate we wouldn’t know different cultures and languages, however I do believe that countries should monitor who enters and leaves their country for safety reasons. We are all global citizens from one planet that we all share everyone as global citizens have the right to migrate.

I agree with the right to migrate, but with some restrictions. In nature, birds migrate to better lands for them, which provides more food or a better breeding scene, but birds also give something back to that place, it’s a relationship. That way should migration be working, by letting people live in other country only when they give something back to that country. Its basically the way nature works, you get something and you give something. Migration should be a right only when there is a reciprocal relationship.

I think that people must have the right to migrate. People around the world should start changing the way the think about that. Instead of fighting for lands, resources and all of those things, I think that people should share them happily and the world will become a better place to live. However, the migration process should be in a respectful relationship.

According to the bird aspect of migration, what an enchantement it is every summer or fall that we receive the blessings of an array of several diffrent species of fowl that migrate from northern regions (up state) down hear to southern florida. Would we recieve such things if the fowls didnt inherate themselves that blessing to fly freely and liberally? The same can transcend on over to a person who isnt allowed to travel or migrate about, he can be a blessing withheld.]

I believe in the right to migrate because humans, as well as other types of organisms, migrate for a better way of life, for a better opportunity or just for a change. We should not restrict others of this right because if we did, America wouldn't be what it is today without the right to migrate.

I believe every person has a right to migrate in search of better living conditions and all countries have the right to regulate immigration flows and to protect their borders. Societies become more multi-ethnic and interculturally enriched by migration.

I believe that all countries should monitor and regulate immigration while allowing everyone to exercise their right to migrate. People have been migrating for centuries for labor, refugee, and urbanization reasons. The United States identity would not be what it is today without the American melting pot taking place.

N.Cruz said...

I believe that every country should regulate but allow migration. People around the world migrate for many reasons, but no matter how much we prohibit it, we still have thousands of immigrants throughout the United States. Allowing individuals to migrate freely will even safe lives; several individuals that have escaped their countries have died on their journey to a better life and freedom.

We have to be a little more realistic when comparing two different species. We can't really compare birds and humans when we talk about migration. Birds can fly and forage for food freely without worrying too much about traveling or cost. When we speak about human migration it's different in the mere sense that we deplete resources faster than any animal in existence. I'm up for human rights, but as a human I can only share so much. When I start feeling discomfort in my habitat then we have problems. I agree with Sarah M. migration is okay as long as the country's well being is in mind.

Without the right to migrate we wouldn't have such a wonderful exposure to all types of cultures. I feel that without the right to migrate humans would become very bland because every culture is influenced from another group of peoples.

The right to migrate is pushed by the right of knowledge; if an individual know about the world that is beyond his boundaries his or her ambitions for migration grew. If an individual is confortable and has all his or her needs met where she or he lives, he or she won’t have the necessity to migrate and find new perspectives. A.L.

I believe that all human beings have the right to migrate. I don’t agree that a group of people such as the government decide where another person should live. Everyone should have the right to migrate to the part of the world where he or she believes they want to live and be happy. If you give people a choice to migrate eventually people will go where they feel comfortable and where they can make a better life for themselves. Migration will increase competition for all the governments in the world to do better for their people if they want to continue to exit as a nation. By: L.J.B.R.

Migration is something done worldwide, not only for survival but for change as well. I don’t think the human race can be compared to birds when speaking about migration. Birds migrate to survive because they have no choice. People migrate mostly to better their lives and experience change. C.M.A.

I think everyone should have the right to migrate. Migration can be a beautiful thing. It gives us the opportunity to experience new thing and learn about other cultures. I think it is practible and necessary for migration. Some may migrate for the need of a better life or even to want to become diverse. You should always have the right to experiance and learn the world around you. J.P.

I think migration should be available to everyone. We the people sometimes deserve a better life and might not find it where they life and need to migrate to somewhere totally different. For example: For a lot of people finding a job is not easy, some have to move and travel far distances to meet their needs for survival. Maybe life would be better if we lived like a bunch of birds. I agree that the right to migrate should be universal. However, the right to migrate does not have to include sharing resources and it doesn't have to mean sacrificing to the point where your family becomes unfortunate. If people were more concerned with the overall well-being of its nations inhabitants the right to migrate would hold little place in conversation. These inspiring "migraters" want to find better living conditions in all aspects.

The right to migrate, there are many factors as to why people or even animals migrate. For human beings normally what causes migration such as not enough jobs, few opportunities, primitive conditions, political fear or persecution, etc.
