The Right to Migrate

Every being shall have the right to migrate across the Earth.
I declare the Right to Migrate for all beings.

Migration happens.
But no international treaty asserts any right to migrate.
Voluntary migration happens when a being
seeks a better life and/or to fulfill basic needs.
Involuntary migration happens to a being
due to evacuation, expulsion, and slavery.

Migration is so controversial because it is perceived
as having a direct impact on
the receiving country nationals'
Right to Security and Right to Work.

Some U.S. history:
revised the 1921  system---70% of slots given to only 3 countries:
United Kingdom, Ireland and Germany---
thus giving equal status to people of all nations,
based primarily on family reunification and needed skills.

International humanitarian work and globalization
are very related to the Right to Migrate,
especially in the case of refugees and migrating workers.

But many animals, birds, and insects migrate freely across the Earth.

Millions of monarch butterflies migrate
from Canada to central Mexico every year.

Animals migrate freely in winter to warmer places where they can find food, water and shelter. When people cross borders or oceans looking for a better place to live they usually face deportation or punishment. Sometimes it seems like animals act more human and humans act more like animals...Zulima Alvarez

Just like the video shows the butterflies moving freely, I think that humans should also be able to migrate. Many people leave a country in hopes for a better life with education and work. And no one should be denied the right to a better life. -v.p.

I think the right to migrate should be allowed. I belive that the person who is migrating though needs to do so legally and follow the process laid out by the government of the country in which the person is migrating to.

Every person should have the right to migrate freely to other countries to look for freedom, for a better place to live, trying to find a better life for them and their kids. The world should be border free. Laura R.

Every human being should have the right to migrate. people look for a better future for themselves, for freedom... an escape. i think the goverment should not tell them otherwise.

Every person should have the right to live where they please. People want a better future and better jobs, and that sometimes requires people to move elsewhere. So yes, I believe everyone should have the right to migrate.

Migration is a everyday thing animals migrate from place to place looking for water food and shelter. People also are migrating everyday yet us humans cannot migrate with the liberty that animals do in which case I think it is wrong. People migrate to look for a future a better home a safer place for their families and that right is taken from them for no reason. We all deserve the right to migrate the world.

without migration we would not have been exposed to some of the new traditions and cultures we know today.

I emigrated 41 years ago, therefore, I strongly believe that migration is very important for the
exchange of ideas and knowledge.

Everyone has a different reason for migration. I believe that each receiving country is responsible for making sure that the reasons for migrating are necessary for the family.

Everyone should have the right to migrate or travel to a different country. But this right should have limits. If everyone decided to pack up their bags and say I’m moving to North America there would be loads of problems. Over population, increased unemployment, and increased traffic are already problems we face today imagine if everyone can just get up and move with more ease. I would prefer if migration was limited to traveling within the specific country or continent that the indivdual lives in to look for peace or a better job. Migration to other continents should be based on whether or not the individual migrating has something to offer that specific country.

Humans should be able to migrate where ever they want to live in this world. It is sad that the world is separated in a way that people have to commit what is considered dangerous and sometimes criminal to try to live another life in another country and to be free to live as they please.

Every person should have the right to migrate if their lives are in danger or if they are looking for a more stable life style. There should be an easier process to help with migration so that people don't end up loosing their life in the process.

Everyone should have the right to migrate because you never know what is the real reason, alot of times people migrate to improve their life. On the other hand their should be a structured step by step way to keep everything organized.

Animals migrate to experience change to find a better place to live, a wider range of food and shelter. So why can’t humans do the same? Similar to what many humans want to do when they migrate. When people migrate the never really have negative intentions, they are just trying to better themselves and their future. Who are we to stand in the way of a better tomorrow?

People should have a right to migrate if they are an asset to the country to which they are migrating. If they are going to be a burden, then no, because it's not fair to the people residing there. There must be boundaries set up regarding immigration, because if everyone was allowed to enter freely there would be squatting and crime issues, especially concerning unemployment. Furthermore, humans are not birds or butterflies, I think we require a lot more than they do.

I agree- human migration is wayyyy different than animals especially since I wouldn't have to compete with a butterfly for a good job BUT, at the same time, if I were to move to another place in search of anything (job, love, new experiences) i would too want equality

Migration should not even be an issue. Everyone has the right to migrate, it is normal and necessary sometimes for survival. Whether it is forced or voluntary, it's a right.

Migration is a natural process in ever animal life. Birds migrate in winter to warmer areas, as do oceanic creatures. Humans should be able to migrate to wherever they want without having anybody stand in their way.

This right reminds me of illegal immigration, which I don't even know why it exists. All humans are part of the Earth. The right to enter a country shouldn't be based on ones abilities, but on one's international citizenship: being a human being. We are all equal and should, therefore, share the whole world with each other.

Everyone should be free to roam where they want as long as they follow the rules.

Human migration is different than animal migration because animals generally have a symbiotic relationship with the environment, but humans generally do not. Some places on earth have been so devastated by humans that life is difficult to sustain there. Beyond political aspects, migration needs to be approached carefully for the sake of the environment and all who live in it.

This is a very interesting topic, I wanted to share this website below related to migrants that are requesting to be allow in other countries because of its climate changes.

"Up to 20 million Bangladeshis may be forced to leave the country in the next 40 years because of climate change, one of the country's most senior politicians has said. Abul Maal Abdul Muhith, Bangladesh's finance minister, called on Britain and other wealthy countries to accept millions of displaced people".

It is my belief that not everyone has this right. We cannot compare people to animals; animals do not have criminal records in their country of origin. People migrate for many different reasons, some for economic while others try to escape prosecution. Should a person that have committed or aid in a genocide be allowed to migrate freely? Should a person that has a highly contagious virus be allowed to roam freely? We have the right to sensible migration.

The immigration reform in 1965 changes the amount and nationality of immigrants that enter the United states of America. Naturally animals migrate from the winter cold. Therefore, I believe humans migrate voluntarily on most occasions. P.L

Restricting people's right to migrant is also against their right to a future. Especially for families who might not survive in a country that strips them from this happiness. But,the right to migrant has a see-saw effect. It will help families, but it will increase population growth in that certain nation. The increase in population will leave some people unemployed and without a home.Of course, people will still find a way to migrant, and that is why it should be allowed.

I believe that everyone has the right to migrate. Everyone should have the choice of where they want to live; whether it is for a better life and more opportunities for successes or simply because they want to explore another country. I also believe that this goes for all beings. It is part of nature. It is survival of the fittest.

I think immigration should have to be ruled by other concepts than the country of nationality. I think every country should allow good people to work as soon as they represent a benefit to the economy of the country".

Every citizen from every country should have the right to migrate anywhere that they please in our world. I myself am a child of a first generation immigrant from a Cuban family. I appreciate the U.S. everyday for letting my family migrate here which was due to the negative impact that my family experienced with political differences and dictatorship. I cannot even imagine how our lives would be at this moment without the freedoms that this country stands for and that my family and I are accustomed to. There are so many other families like my own who suffer living in their country and wish for the same opportunities as mine had. I understand well that the U.S. has carried plenty of burden with allowing so many immigrants come and migrate here; however, immigrants is what our country is made of and what would be of this country without them? We live in a nation of many intelligent individuals; therefore, there has to be a way to allow a more flexible system to migrate here.

My grandfather migrated from Italy here during the War seeking a better life.
People of that time came to America to be someone, to have freedom and the opportunity to provide for their family. However it seems like more people come into the USA now to take from us instead of use the opportunity to be successful and give back by earning a honest paycheck and paying their taxes. That’s why there are strict rules.

Animals migrate due to their instinct. They are not conscious of it but still do it in order to survive. If they don’t do it, they die. Many people migrate voluntarily, but others are forced to do it due to political issues. If they don’t migrate, they can also die. It is very hard to leave your country and the life you already had and start all over again. We should be tolerant and help if we can. Everybody has the right to migrate in the search for a better life. GS

Everyone that has done it could agree on how hard is to leave everything that you have known, but sometimes people get forced to migrate in order to have a better life and that is understandable and necessary.

I read some of the previous comments and my prayers go out to you all. I originally thought that I understood migration until I read the other comments. I am now neutral on this topic. I don't take this as serious as some. In conclusion, I have made a choice to stay quiet.

The sky does not have frontiers, birds migrate from place to place feeling the freedom of using the part of the planet that best satisfied their necessities at the specific time. If the frontiers would not exist, then the word migration will not be bind to the word politic. Everybody is entitling to the right to migrate and find the weather, food, and social experience they need to.

I believe every individual has the right to migrate. Countries claim unity and freedom to the people but imposing strict laws against immigarants does not prove to be true. -- KB

Everyone has the right to migration. Without mirgration there is no progress within a persons lives. Animals migrate to have a better living enviroment. The butterflies in the video show how even if they are insects they know when they should move to a better place. Also, there are people who are forced to migrate. They have to leave their country because of either a natural disaster, politics, and many other factors. Migrating should be an option even though at times it is enforced.

Migration is healthy for a person, if they been into family trouble and what to start over. Or just want to start a new life in a different country.

I was watching the video and it is amazing how butterflies migrate in a large quantity to certain parts of the world, how is it any different when it comes to humans? Animals migrate(one of the reasons) for survival and for humans, majority migrate for a bette life style, example they want to have a better education or for health reasons. Migration should be a right for everyone. EA

The most common causes for people to migrate from time to time are economic, personal, political, undeveloped country or poverty. Those immigrants are coming from everywhere to have an healthier living condition right. I think that it is depressing that so numerous people have to migrate to find what they truly wish in life.

Yes animals migrate freely but people cannot be compared to animals. Migration has been a way for people to seek better lifes for themselves and their families. However I believe that criminals should not be allowed to migrate. It is not right to make another country take on these problems.

Many people and animals migrate for various reasons. Most of the time, migration is due to a need for survival. Animals as well as humans (we are animals too) migrate to improve their current status, whether it is economically, professionally, geographically, etc. With such migration comes other changes both in geography and population. These changes can improve or hinder the places receiving the change in population. As a global community, we must be conscious of these factors and have plans developed that when implemented would benefit the location receiving the change in demographics. Otherwise, uncontrolled migrations can be very detrimental to a location due to depletion of resources caused by unexpected amounts of migration. Each place has its balance. When that balance is altered other changes must occur to prevent serious damages.

If humans migrate freely like animals the world will turn out to be a mess. I understand that some people want to start their lives over or improve what they already have, however, rules exist for a reason therefore they should be followed correctly. The place where those people come from and the new place chosen should not suffer from uncontrolled migration, short money or other basic needs. Migration can be excellent but it needs to be handled in the right way.

The land of all countries belongs to Mother Nature and the Earth not to humans (or governments) who fight for possession/power of territories. Voluntary/involuntary migration occurs and without the right to migrate it’s as if preventing species basic needs of a better life or even survival. – D.T

Every living thing should have the right to migrate wherever they feel safe, can find food, or start a new life. This is a right I strongly agree with.

Jenny said...

I believe that the right to migrate is a natural process which is unique to every single species; in the way it is accomplished. From a single individual to a group, from one location to another, with one purpose or too many, migration is the right to be free and enjoy the freedom.

Migration is what made the United States Of America the melting pot of a country that it is today. Unfortunately with all the crisis happening around the world, migration needs to have the proper laws. If we were to allow any person to migrate at free will caos will arise. R.R
