The Right to Food

After World War II,
the United Nations included the right to food
in their Declaration of Human Rights.

How powerful are declarations?

How does a declaration get food to a hungry person?

I think that every person has the right to food.
There are several food bank that feeds the general public, which is a right that every human
being should never be without a bite to eat

We the people of the United States throw away so much food. I am guilty of this. As I was growing up, my mother always reminded us of kids that would love to eat our left overs. All human beings should be provided the means of food to eat.

Food is a necessity that should be readily available to everyone in need.

I believe everyone has the right to food. It is a need to survive. I agree with Rhonda. My family often times throws away extra food or companies that can't resell food the next day may throw it away. If there are hungry people in this world then why are we throwing it all away?

I think any food you show to a hungry person will make them hungrier.

this looks beyond amazing.

People often misinterper food. We eat to live, we don't live to eat.

Sad to even think that not everyone has the availability to food. Every human should be able to obtain enough food necessary to survive at least. I think of my own self and how many times I throw out food because I have purchased too much and I have let it gone bad. Or when my daughter complains that there is nothing to eat and the fridge is full. How fortunate we really are when there are so many people without anything.

We do have the right to food. Some people take advantage of this right in good ways and in bad. There are many obese people in the United States that over eat. On the other hand there are people that are starving. There are also people that starve themselfs for the want to be "beautiful." There are many types of abuses toward the "right to food." We as a country need to take this right seriously because food is a luxury as well as a necessty. There are countries where people have to go to sleep starving because they are unable to attain food. Take the right that we have to food and use it wisely.

Growing up in a third world country I believe that I have a pretty understanding of hunger. Food is not a right; if a man does not want to work he should not eat. If a person needs help they should get it until they can help themselves. Food is not a right but more a responsibility.

not only is food necessary for survival, but creating new dishes fulfills the soul. I am a firm believer that a family that eats together stays together, grows stronger and is more comprehensive of each other

How is it that people are starving when planting a tree (ex. apple tree) takes only minutes?

In World War 11 many people got hungry even soldiers. By this declaration we can get food to a hungry person or a platoon in the military.P.L

The right to eat is also a god given birth right. When someone is hungry, the natural instinct is to eat. The difference between now and the early days of man, is that we have to pay for food now, which could be an issue for people who live in poverty or are homeless.

I believe that food is very important for our bodies. We can go on without it for a little while, but we will eventually need to recharge our batteries!

Food is vital to sustaining life. Having this legal document should be the instigator in providing food for the hungry. Whether with can donations or organizations, malnutrition can be eliminated.

Food is essential for the fueling of our bodies and if we have a right to live we have a right to eat.

The right to food is essential. Just in moderation.

No one should be denied food. We as humans need food . Its essential for the fueling of our bodies and it is also very important to have the proper nutrition. If you don't eat, you are lacking essential vitamins and nutrients needed to support the human body. I am a nutrition major and i know the dire consequences leading to malnutrition.

A declaration is very powerful and it can be very scary to know that if a declaration prohibts someone from receiving something, it means you are being rejected from a right. Everyone has to right to food because it is vital for life. EA

I think we can all agree that food is a right, but we should not only talk about it, we should also do what we can to eliminate hunger.

The declaration of the United Nations is to seek, receive and respond to information on all aspects of the realization of the right to food, including the urgent necessity of eradicating hunger.

The right is there, but sometimes it takes a little bit of effort in order to apply this right, i cant just wait in a table without moving and expect to get something to eat served.

Recognition of a problem is a first step in resolving the problem. By declaring that everyone has a right to food, it recognizes the necessity of food and emphasizes the problem of those without food. In doing so, it lays the ground work for joining together to eradicate the problem of hunger in a world that produces plenty.

Food is essential to survival, for this reason it should not be denied

In all honesty, the declaration isn't going to help those in hunger. Yeah, of course, it's a legal document that states food should be provided to all, but this doesn't keep the thousands of kids in Africa from starvation, and eventually death.

To me, the right to food shouldn’t be considered a right. For any living thing especially humans/animals it should be a necessity for survival not thought as a privilege. It’s like saying ‘the right to water.’ It should be a given, not even be deliberated, less have to be put into a declaration. Declarations are laws stated, that in the short or long run can be revised. – D.T

Food is the one thing that everyone needs to survive. If we don't have available food, we die, plain and simple. E.S.

We should definitely have the right to food. We need it to survive, it's one of those things you just can't tell me i don't have the right to have. Plus it tastes good. -GP

A hugry person only wants to eliminate hunger. What will or can stop a hungry person from eating? This right was apparent before birth. We could eat when we were in the womb.

I read the article "Why Can't People Feed Themselves" by Frances Moore Lappe and Joseph Collins. In it says "underdeveloped... became for me a verb meaning the process by which the minority of the world... robbed and degraded.. the majority." If a country is starving, it probably isn't their fault. I think its great, then, that the U.N. is doing what they can to eradicate extreme hunger and poverty.

I really do not know how a declaration gets food to a homeless person, however maybe it has something to do with homeless shelters in every city. Every person has a right to food. I know I have assisted many a homeless person by giving them food instead of money. We all need to be thankful we have food and the ability to buy what we want, for to be hungry a lot is a very uncomfortable feeling.

Food is a necesity of life. Without it one cannot live. Writing things on paper, such as the right to food, does not make it more or less important. It also does not guarantee that those who really need food will be "granted" their right to food. The truth is, we are animals. We hunt and gather our food as needed. In order to eat, we must provide the proper payment for the goods and if you don't work, then you don't eat.

We all have the right to food, but many take advantage of it. I dont know how the declaration gives food to the hungry. But i do know that every sunday many churches give out free food to the homeless.

food is a right because we should all learn to provide food for ourselves. this has always been the case since the beginning of time, man has always hunted and fished to sustain his family.
