A common way for non-profit groups to get funding
is the inventive term "adopting an animal."
This is a hypothetical adoption; you don't get the animal,
but your money does contribute to

Saving animals' lives now has a "face"
where you the donor
where you the donor
can imagine the direct help you do to save one animal.
Here is a quick list of some I have found:
chimpanzees at the Jane Goodall Institute,
Ecuador's rainforest animals ,
Univ of Miami tagged shark (comes with satellite tracking),
Big Cat Rescue choice of cat,
sea turtle (view migration maps from satellite transmitters!),
Hawaii Wildlife Fund endangered marine animal,
American Eagle Foundation eagle,
Born Free rescued zoo lion,
Grand Canyon mountain lion,
wild horse in New Mexico sanctuary,
tiger,
elephant or rhino orphan,
Florida panther,
West African giraffe,
gorilla orphan,
or choose your animal from the
World Animal Foundation.
Also, try the new idea of an adopt an animal gift.
There are also numerous sanctuaries for abandoned or rescued
wildlife pets, zoo and circus animals.
For example, a Colorado sanctuary rescued Bolivian circus lions from 8 circuses,
after a national law was passed prohibiting circus animals in 2010.

Wow that is an impressive list to choose from. I recently adopted an animal in the same way. A human animal you could pick from any country you wanted, male or female and get progress reports on their health and whatnot. It's funny how the nonprofits are marketing the animals just like the humans or vice versa. Just pick any animal you want from where ever and enjoy the self satisfaction that you are somehow doing something good feeding egos one animal at a time. dgon4321
animals do not have a voice in he world we live in . It is up to us to speak for them. Florida has too many perfectly fit pets being euthanized because we cannot offer them a home. Suggestions are to adopt pets and not purchase them for a ridiculous amount of money. Also the research from animals have provided outstanding findings. Recently some scientist have found opposums (as charming as they are) have a protein which is immune to almost all poisons. Donating to some researchers could in fact help us in the long run.http://news.yahoo.com/blogs/sideshow/opossum-protein-makes-them-immune-nearly-poisons-could-190604532.html-JLH

The story on the Bolivian circus lions is amazing! We owe it to the animals to give them back the life they were meant to have on this earth. We, the human species, are the ones that put them through misery in the first place anyway. True, animals don’t have a voice but they do have a sense of dignity and by caging them up to rot would be offending their dignity. I’m happy to hear that that there are organizations willing to fight for a species other than their own.

I can see how the term "Adopt an Animal" is helping non-profit organizations successfully get donations. It gives the contributor a closer connection with the animal. It helps them envision how their money is being used. It puts a face to the cause. For example, there have been numerous commercials recently showing pictures of abandoned and abused animals that are quite lengthy with sad background music. If you are not one to switch channels, almost every person asks themselves " How can I help these animals". This is something that is part of most people's natures. -eherr
Tortured, abused, and malnourished: three words that should never encompass the lives of our animals. Like all living things, they have the right to be free- free from incarceration, free from the circus chains of corruption. For that reason, my family and I help organizations like the ASPCA. It is our duty to care for these defenseless creatures and give them the protection they need and deserve.

I think we most protect these aminals and help them out any way we can. Aniamls are pretty special and letting them die out is the wrong chocie for earth.

Animals have a life too and letting it suffer makes us no different from owners who abuse their animal or even humans who abuse their child. I am happy that people would donate money as in buy a domestic animal just to help them without actually getting the animal. I myself volunteer at a shelter to help animals on the weekends (Friend Forever rescue).

Helping animals shouldn't be a choice, even if it doesn't include donations we as "animals"ourselves on top of the food chain, should take upon us to care for the lower kinds, not just by sheltering and feeding, but by preventing animal abuse. Adopting an animal is an amazing idea. Just by donating a couple dollars we can be saving or finding ways to better the lives of the less fortunate. C.N.J
"Adopting an animal" is a beautiful idea. It can give animals, that would otherwise be dead, the chance to experience a healthy, safe life. Animals like pandas, tigers and giraffes should be around for my children and my childrens children to experience the beauty of.

I believe that donating money to save the animals is a great idea. Many people don’t pay attention to that and is not very good because they could help the animals in need. Somet of the animals are in danger of extinction and they need our help. I did research and I found out that the tiger is in danger of extinction and biologists are looking for people who are willing to donate money to save the tigers. IC
Animals are one of earth's creatures that have to suffer the most from our presence. Therefore, animal rescue organizations are the least we could have come up with, to give our animals some sort of a voice in this human dominated world. We will obviously never be willing to simply back off, and leave these creatures the room, and environment they are naturally supposed to have. -SZ
Our society highly values private property and non-profit groups may appeal to this American longing, to reach the necessary funds to protect-rescue-research-save animal species. After all, which are the possible options to everyone who likes animals: a) adopting an animal by buying it from a pet store, bringing it home and neglecting it once one realizes that an animal requires more commitment than some of us are willing to give, or b) “adopting an animal” from one of these organizations and leave the professionals take care of animals that otherwise will die. Is “adopting an animal” the proper name for this non-profit organization to market its services? It may not, yet it contributes to the survival of some these in-danger animals. Extraordinary amounts of money get wasted every year in self-centered and destructive addictions, such as alcohol and tobacco, among others. Investing some of these resources on helping these creatures is simply the right thing to do. In my opinion and assuming that this non-profit group is legitimate, marketing this campaign as “adopted animals” gives to the financial supporters the feeling of contributing to the well being of the natural world while protecting these animals in places where qualified people can provided the professional care needed, instead of the old adoption style, where by the time the pet reaches adulthood some people may neglect it and/or abuse it.

The "Adopting a animal" non-profit organization is a great idea. It helps keep our animals from being extinct. Just because their animlas doesnt mean we shouldnt help them.Animals get abused every day as it is.That doesnt sound to fair to me, they should atleast have the right to get some help from us humans. We should do everything possible to help their needs. After all their not causing any harm to us, its us that make their lives harder. Animals are a big part of mother nature. -UF
I believe taking care of these animals is the right thing to do, but shouldn't we let nature take it's course and solve other problems that are affecting us specifically instead?

"Compassionate living" is a concept based on the belief that humans have a moral responsibility to treat animals with respect, and that the interests of humans and animals should be considered equally. It may not be easy to determine accurately the best interests of an animal, we can safely assume that animals generally prefer to live, to be free from pain, and to express their natural behaviors. Are we humans superior to animals because we possess the capacity to understand morality, as well as the ability to determine right from wrong. Since humans are the only ones who can make moral judgements, then isn't it our responsibility to do so on behalf of the animals? All animals, including humans, have the ability to experience pleasure and pain. Unfortunately, humans have tended to inflict tremendous amounts of pain and suffering on animals without any consideration of how this affects the animals themselves. By making compassionate daily choices, you can help end widespread animal abuse and exploitation. AF
As it was in the beginning, so it still is in the present, that humans have a God-given responsibility to have dominion over every living thing that moves upon the earth.
Supporting non-profit organizations that preserve animals is the right thing to do and it makes a difference. The title “adopt an animal” can be misleading but is effective in getting money needed to save animals (which I believe is a noble cause).

The "Adopt an Animal" is a great orginazation to join. It is a way that makes you feel part of the animal's life, meanwhile the animal is happy and in its rightfully own habitat. This way we can save many precious animal lives and know that not only are we happy , but the animal will be too. -CA
I think that adopting an animal is a great way to help this organization. I admire the idea; you get to help an animal while it still gets the love and proper care he needs. -B.A
Let’s all be realistic, animals rely on humans for their continued existence. We are in fact the ones who will either be the cause of their extinction or their saviors. Luckily for them, there are many who have empathy for those animals in need and the understanding of our own need to coexist with them. It is beautiful when humans can sacrifice their money and time to assure the continued existence of various species. Adopt an animal, a gesture of kindness that hopefully is legendary for all future generations! MMSEAWOLF
This is good for animals who being physical abused. Many people don't even care for animals, they just see them as a pest to society and that is so cruel of them so if they could get this type of help then that is good. The money you donate can help them be well taken care of by people who really love them.At the end of the day, they are iving things to with feelings and they should be treated the same way human beings are treated.S.A.
In a cruel world where an animal’s love becomes expired by a few years, these types of programs are like heaven to those poor creatures. No animal should go hungry! And I shout that from the bottom of my heart.R.R
All animals are special and our just like us..... we just speak different languages....... it is our responsibility as humans or the more advanced species to protect them.... read "the bond" by Wayne pacelle..... MB
Growing up with animals, all my life I have learn to respect and admire all kinds of animals, a lot of time animals don’t have a voice. On today’s society many people don’t see or care about animals. Is up to a few people to make a different and a choice, somebody has to stand up for animals and try to interpret their voice. LEG
I think this is a good way to raise money to help the animals. I'm particularly intrigued by the organizations with the satellite tracking, this is a good way to attract people due the interaction between donor and animal.-bonzi
Think of a world with no animals. I fear humans do not realize how important animals are. I think it is necessary that everyone take part in the conservation of animals. One way of doing this, is to adopt an animal. Animals have the right to live. Nevertheless, a good life. Adopting an animal is our way of helping all these non-profit organizations fight for their rights. *KPG*
KPG took every word I wanted to say! This world needs animals just like we need plants for oxygen. For the Carnivors we need the protein and other ingredients that animals have. I'm not saying we should kill every animal but it is a way of life. For those animals that run free in the wild, we should cherish the beauty and let them live their lives peacefully. -RCT
Humans have a voice in this world not animals. Now that the opportunity has presented its self for us humans to speak up for animals we should. I feel that adopting an animal is one of the most heart warming things one can do. And I totally agree with, The Right to Life for Animals..."adopt an animal".
AA
The human race would not be what it is today without they existence of animals. The human brain rapidly started developing once homo sapiens started getting protein from eating the meat of animals. All animals are important and it is our duty as the higher more advanced species to help out in any way we can. Providing shelter, aid, and adopting are great ways to make a difference.

Most of these animals are in extinction organizations like those mentioned in the blog provide shelter and care for those rescued animals. People can help these creatures through these organizations; “Adopt an Animal” is a smart way to aid and inform societies of cruelty acts that these animals may suffer.- G.S.
It's very important for us to grasp the fact that all living species and beings have a right to food, water , and a home. Since animals don't have a voice, it's great that people take the time to create organizations that is beneficial to their well-being. A person is more likely to donate when they can actually follow their animals because it makes it more believable. An donor receives a more personal connection when pictures and stories are involved. ~vm
Being a member of a non-profit organization myself has proven to me the difference one person can make. In this society most animals are at risk to animal cruelty and its up to us to protect them. Animals can't speak for themselves so it's up to us to try to help them either by adopting a pet from a shelter or by simply donating money to a non-profit organization. If people were more educated on how common animal cruelty is , they'd probably be willing to make a difference.

Our obligation as sentient being is to conserve the beauty and wilderness of our planet. Animals out there need our help, they cant not defend themselves from the biggest predator out there, us! It is up to those who have the heart and love to stand up for the earth’s fauna.
JDD
Have you ever wondered what the wildlife will be in the next 10 or 15 years? What wildlife will your children and your children’s children grow up to see? It is painful to see so many of our beloved animals going extinct. If we can help to save them, then we should all give a helping hand.SAM
In some cases the extinction of the animals is due to the normal cause of evolution. In other cases, unfortunately, humans are involved. Government of the countries all over the world should strongly cooperate to save animals lives. Donations to non-profit organizations are a way to give participation to everyone in this important matter.
