The Right to Rest

René Descartes (1596–1650) is considered a founder of modern philosophy,
but he also influenced  physics in a big way.

In his mature work, Principles of Philosophy (1644),
Descartes believed that conserving quantity of motion
was a fundamental principle of the cosmos.

The state of rest as the most natural physical state.

To uphold Descartes theory, the Lady Philosopher is breaking for neuron rest.

The Right to Self-Determination... Rest... Laziness vs. Idleness

Laziness or idleness?

When in moderation,
rest is beneficial idleness.
It may allow for moments of contemplation or relaxation,
a positive state of non-action.
The Zen Buddhist Yoshida Kenko wrote Essays in Idleness (1330-1332).
In Essay 75, he wrote of his love for idleness:
"I wonder what feelings inspire a man to complain of "having nothing to do."
I am happiest when I have nothing to distract me and I am completely alone."

But when rest is taken to an extreme,
it becomes laziness,
a sluggish form of non-production,
a procrastination of doing,
a negative state of non-action.
And Kenko also wrote against foolish laziness in Essay 108:
"A man who fails even for a short time
to keep in mind the preciousness of time
is no different from a corpse."

Thus, there are two sides to the state of rest.

The Right to Body Care... Rest

The Lady Philosopher needs to recharge her frontal lobes.
After 60 plus brainy posts in a span of just a few months,
the brain becomes an irrascible mix of
shimmering,
hyperactive,
unruly,
                                 s ca  tt er ed,
unnnnconntrolll able
neurons.

Thus, I declare the Right to Rest for all beings.

I will return in a couple weeks at the beginning of May!
