The Right to Expression....Personality

Each of us has a special personality with specific traits.
Psychologists generally agree that these traits
persist over time, are individually specific, and influence behavior.

Therefore, I declare the Right to Personality,
whereby each individual will have the right to be who they are,
as created by heredity and environment.
Exceptions to this right include
extreme personality disorders and abhorrent criminal behavior
which threaten any individual's Right to Security.

A recent psychology theory defines personality
by the "Big Five" factors:
1) openness (inventive/curious vs. consistent/cautious),
2) conscientiousness (efficient/organized vs. easy-going/careless),
3) extraversion (outgoing/energetic vs. solitary/reserved),
4) agreeableness (friendly/compassionate vs. cold/unkind),
5) neuroticism (sensitive/nervous vs. secure/confident).
Heredity and environment influence each of these almost equally.

But here's a link of 25 other theorists that have other category models
to define the concept of personality.
Carl Jung, for example, believed people relate to the world by
1)sensing, 2) thinking, 3)intuiting, and 4)feeling.

Personality psychologist Lewis Goldberg
is the creator of the International Personality Item Pool (IPIP),
an on-line continual collection of individual personality traits,
an inventory measuring characteristics through testing.

The right to personality is one of the most important rights as an individual. Our personalities is in every essence who we are. I go by what Bruce Lee once said "Always be yourself, express yourself, have faith in yourself, do not go out and look for a successfull personality and duplicate it." -D.E.C.

I agree with the right to personality. No one should be ridiculed or discouraged for trying to be themselves. Some people may not think it is damaging, but it can psychologically hurt someone if you aren't careful.

The right to personality fascinates me. I find it amazing to think that out of millions of people in this world, we are all different from one another. Personality, in many ways, determines who we are and who we will be in the future by giving us the tools that we have available to build our own destiny. Furthermore, it is interesting to think of personality as the result of different mixtures of attitudes and feelings. I declare the right to personality!... D.C.R

Time and time again i bring up personality issues, we must achieve a unique personality from everyone else, because if we were the same and all equal then life would be a bore there would be no meaning to anything we would all be the same walking and working zombies whom have no differences in any kind of trait just all equally the same and boring ourselves day in and day out to death. -J.J.V.

Many times, people who are introverted or autistic are outcasted from society. They should be allowed to express their personality even if it means not being very outwardly expressive at all.

We all have our unique traits and gifts that were given to us from birth, and some that we were destined to acquire through life, as our own divine investment back to the world. We must respect and embrace the healthy personalities of others, rather than take away or deplete them. ~ F.G.

No society can possibly be built on a denial of individual freedom.

I second the right to personality! Without personality the world is bland and boring. Personalities define people and makes every day fun and exciting. -SJB

I agree with the right to personality! Imagine how boring the world would be if we all had the same personality? Different personalities and ways of being actually help us. They mold our character and make us stronger. Everyone has the right to be who they were born to be, no matter the differences in personality you NEED to be unique. MV

Everyone is different. Some people don't mind the noise that people around them make. Others, however, cannot stand it. This is part of your personality, and we must learn to accept it. We cannot change the way other people behave, but must simply learn to accept that people are different.

Each personality is a rare identity. While personalities share traits and attributes, not one is exactly alike to another. It would be perfect to live in a world where personality isn't judged by stereotyping, or by other labels people make up.

Personality defines who you are and the characteristics that belong to you. We have to respect the personality of everybody. I agree with this right. I think that we do not decide how are we going to be in life and the type of personality that we will have. The important thing is to be natural and try to behave in the best possible way.

Your personality gets formed by your experiences in life as you grow up. You are born with the basics but you create it as things start happening to you and your sorroundings change.

The Right to personality looks and sounds easy to defend. This right is granted to people living in free countries. This is not the case for people that live under totalitarian regimes where personality is controlled with government purpose. In addition, education is manipulated to transform children’s personality to favor their totalitarian’s ideologies. In other countries people can’t choose to be outgoing or social because is against their religion or culture which also influence their personality.A.L.

I wish that more people would embrace this right. I live in a place that is full of what I like to call 'plastic' people. Many of them attempt to emulate what is popular at the moment, as if they were afraid of letting their true personalities show. Are we fully embracing our right to personality if we try to mimic those who are in the limelight?

A person’s personality is what makes every individual special in his or her own way. Society always tries to set the standard as to what a person’s personality should be like. Everyone has a distinct personality that is shaped as a result of several factors from their upbringing, beliefs, and personal experiences. Variety in people’s personalities is what makes the world intriguing and special.

The right to personality is great. We each have the right to be someone different, unique, and be an amazing person. We are never told to be just like someone else. Instead, we should create our own path. Personality is shaped by our surroundings and our choices."Whatever you are, be good at it." (Abraham Lincoln)

God could have made us all Sanguines.
We could have lots of fun but accomplish little.
He could have made us all Melancholies.
We would have been organized and charted but not very cheerful.
He could have made us all Cholerics.
We would have been set to lead, but impatient that no one would follow!
He could have made us all Phlegmatics.
We would have had a peaceful world but not much enthusiasm for life.
We need each temperament for the total function of the body.
Each part should do its work to unify the action and produce harmonious results.

I found this right so interesting. It is amazing to see how culture and genes determine our personality and what I find even more fascinating is to see how siblings can have totally different personalities. Personality is what makes a family and society so diverse. (LCL)

Personality is the set of distinctive traits and characteristics that distinguishes an individual. Everyone’s personality is what makes him or her different and unique from everyone else. Our attitude, temper and values are all factors that make up our personality. We should all have the right to be our self and not what others want us to be. If everyone would act, talk and think the same way, there would be no diversity. The world would be boring and predictable. I declare the right to personality as everyone has the right to be whom they please.

I agree with the right to personality, I took the IPIP test and the results were very accurate with how I behave. I like to suggest tests like these with my friends to compare results. When we see on paper what our personalities are like, it makes it easier to highlight what factors might contribute to why their is a relationship between individuals. I love this right because personalities are one of the major driving forces in society.

We all have a right to personality, and it’s a beautiful right. I believe that we should embrace our personality and should love who we are. I think it’s an unfortunately thing that so many people are just copies of other people rather than being original. We should accept people just how they are and not judge them because they are different. O.V.

The right to personality is the right to having our own identity. If we cannot approach the right to personality then we do not live in a sense of completion. If we gain confidence and become more self-aware in society, we can relate ourselves to this world. Personality traits take us far into the domestics of life and can create a unified change.

Personality is what makes us different. If we were all the same this world would be very boring. We should all embrace the fact that we are all different. It is not one color of the rainbow that makes it so interesting, it’s all of them!

I think the right to personality is one of the most important for a person because it makes them who they are. I once heard the saying, "be who you want to be, not what people want to see." That is the motto I follow today because everyone should do whatever they want, not what other people do just to fit in.

According to the Oxford Dictionary, personality is the combination of characteristics or qualities that form an individual's distinctive character. It is a group of traits that bond together to make a person they way they are. These traits and characteristics are influenced in many ways by family, friends, environment, and etc. I think people should embrace who they are and what makes them different from everyone else.

I believe personality is what you are, what you think, what you feel. They are all connected to form ONE, ourselves: experiences over time, environment, feelings, genes. We need to free ourselves of our inner ghosts, complexes, preconceptions, and society rules or patterns in order to create a personal opinion, a personality (although the right to accountability needs to be present).

Usually when we talk about someone's personality, we are talking about what makes that person different from other people, perhaps even unique. This aspect of personality is called individual differences. For some theories, it is the central issue. These theories often spend considerable attention on things like types and traits and tests with which we can categorize or compare people: Some people are neurotic, others are not; some people are more introverted, others more extroverted; and so on. Each one of us is unique. Not only through our fingerprints, but also through our personality. I declare the right to personality because as Oscar Wilde once said, "Be yourself, everyone else is already taken." Each person's own characteristics gives them their own personal beauty. Etel

Personality is one of the things that make this world so fun and at the same time challenging. Personality separates reality from fiction and gives each individual a specific characteristic that others don’t have no matter how similar he/she might be to someone else. Without personality there wouldn’t be love and without love there isn’t happiness.

The right to personality is natural, and there is no way to deny this. The only thing that can be done to a personality is improvement for better. Your personality is you in all its good and bad forms. JE
