The Right to Respect... Accountability

To be accountable means to follow rules--
rules of family, society, workplace, government, and culture.
We follow rules,
by making certain choices of action,
and we expect others to do the same.
We especially like an accountable government,
but we also appreciate accountable family and friends.

There is peacefulness in the idea of accountability.
Things run smoothly.

No rules?
The result is chaos.
Rules allow space for many freedoms.

I declare the Right to Accountability.

The Right to Accountability modifies the Right to Self-Determination.

Love this right! I believe everyone should be accountable for their actions no matter what. The only "excuse" I would say when someone might not be accountable is if they are a young child or if they are sick. Aside from that, we all need to be accountable for our actions. Everything we do carries a consequence, if we weren't held accountable how would we learn? -MV

I think it's good to follow rules up to certain extent, some rules are made to be broken and bent. I also agree with the fact that if you are going to break the rules you have to be accountable for your actions and be ready to face the concequences. Little kids only learn when they start being held accountable, because before that they do as they please and giggle about it.

I agree with the right to accountability, however if we did not have chaos in the first place there would be no accountability. Also, not all rules are for the best. Some rules were made to be broken, but is is nice to have accountability? of course, but, like everything else in life, in moderation. Too much of one thing is never good or healthy. We need a bit of chaos sometimes.

Accountability insures that your choices will have consequence. A "bad" choice will have a certain outcome, whereas a "good" choice will have another. Your own personal ethics motivate the choice, the accountability has a reward or punishment for such choice.

With accountability there is one prominent problem. How do you label a choice as a good or bad choice? For example, think of the movie "John Q". In this movie, a boy needs a heart transplant, but his father cannot afford the procedure. Therefore, his father goes in a E.R. holds the people there at ransom, until his son can get the transplant. My question to you is: is a good or bad choice?

Accountability is a moral responsibility. It is an action or decision that expresses a person's conception of what is usually good and with each decision comes the consequence of either praise or blame.

This is tricky. Although few will ever admit it, accountability is not the strong suit of our species. Many think that it is a great thing, but who can honestly say that they have held themselves accountable for the majority of their actions or decisions. Very few of us follow even the simplest of rules, yet grow frustrated and angry when we are caught. Even the longest rule in existence, the rule of balance, is something that most choose to ignore. Pointing fingers and placing blame are what most of us do best. I pose a simple question. When was the last time you actually held yourself accountable? Please be honest with yourself when you answer.

I believe everyone should be accountable for their actions. Like what Carlos G. said "some rules are meant to be broken" and if you break them you should also expect the consequences.-D.E.C.

Yes, the right to accountability lets us feel human, it gives us a purpose to move forward and feel responsible for anything. Accountability builds credibility to our name in other peoples eyes. We can grow as a better person overall with accountability. We must be given responsibilities in order to achieve a successful life. It is the way we are taught to distinguish ourselves from others. -J.J.V.

The statement 'Rules allow space for many freedoms' is something that I had never thought of before, but it is very true. If running pedestrians down was an action with no consequences, I would feel very afraid every time I walked down the street. Accountability in a society allows for peace of mind.

We all have the beautiful gift of life, and with this gift, comes great responsibility. We must be accountable for each and every decision that we make, because each, will shape our tomorrow and the rest of our lives. I support accountability, once we accept this responsibility, wiser caution and choices can be taken. F.G.

Everyone should be held accountable for each decision they make. If a person is not held accountable for the choices they make in life there will be chaos. -SJB

The right to accountability is controversial. People can be held accountable or responsible for their actions no matter if actions are good or bad. Judging actions based on appearance is not allowed. What somebody does at a certain moment, can look right or wrong for someone who is just judging actions and doesn’t know what motivates these actions. We must be careful when judging other people accountability.A.L.

I think that we have to follow certain rules in order to be in a stable society. It is correct that many rules are not acceptable by people and we are able to make decisions based in our discretion. We have to respect the decision of the other person and be accountable in all aspects in life.

I agree with Carlos G, there are some rules that should be broken, however there will be consequences, you should expect to face them and be held accountable for them.

The right to accountability is such a great right. We do things at our own will, therefore we should be held accountable for the things that are wrong. No one else is to blame for your actions but yourself. Holding people responsible for their actions is what keeps us balanced between peace and chaos.

I agree to the right to accountability. We are accountable for what we say and for the decisions we make, of course with the understanding that we do have to deal with the consequences. Therefore, we need to think twice before we talk or before we broke a rule. (LCL)

According to Merriam-Webster dictionary, Accountability is the quality or state of being accountable; an obligation or willingness to accept responsibility or to account for one's actions. I feel that accountability also has to do with security. When a person presumes accountability for their actions, other people feel secure and confident of the decisions or choices that person makes. People also feel safe knowing that someone will be held responsible for their wrongful actions. Being accountable shows leadership and responsibility. People need to stop the excuses and be accountable.

The right to accountability is a very important right that at times we don’t like and at other we do. We all like for other people to be accountable for their actions and we want to live in a place that we truly feel secure. At times we don’t like this right because we don’t want to be accountable for our actions. This right makes us live a better life, morally, and a life with more order and peace. O.V.

I completely believe in the right to accountability. Rules are necessary for peace to be maintained. If a rule were to be broken, the culprit should be held accountable for their actions.

I also agree with the right to accountability. Without any rules, our society would just be pure chaos which would result in an absolutely terrifying environment. Etel

I believe in the right to accountability. Laws and rules are put in place to hold people accountable for their actions and to help society function. People should always be accountable for their actions. For example I totally disagree with people having the option to file for bankruptcy. It’s an easy way for people to get out of the bad financial decisions they made. This is why without people being held accountable they keep making bad financial decisions.

In life we need to have cause and effect, without it we can not learn from our mistakes, nor can we stop ourselves from repeating our wrongful choices. I agree with this right.

I believe in the right to accountability, there is a balance in our environment because we follow certain rules. We need to be accountable of one's actions no matter what, make choices and stick to the consequences either if they are good or bad. As this right says: "Rules allow space for many freedoms."

Accountability is a sense of responsibility, being accountable for something makes that something your own to protect and watch over. Gives you a sense of pride and determination to keep what you care for close to you without harm coming to it. Without accountability you lose part of your humanity and your sense of responsibility, it’s a duty we can’t be without.

The right to accountablity is powerful and desperately needed. If accountablilty were never invented then no one would be at fault of anything they do. The world would create an endless cycle of everyone doing whatever they want without consequence. Your accountable of your actions, and should acknowledge them. By acknowledging them, you can save yourself the time your faced with the same situation. JE

Accountability is something that is lacking in this world today. People like to blame everyone else for thier problems in life. Instead of being accountable for thier actions, they blame others or say they have bad luck. People need to face the consequences when they make mistakes. That is how we learn and grow as human beings. LV
